Windermere is in Orange County, Florida. Windermere was established in 1889 and chartered in 1925. The actual town has only 2-3000 residents, but there are many homes outside of the town limits that have the Windermere mailing address.
Windermere is known as "Among the Lakes". Windermere is surrounded by sand bottom lakes. Lake Butler (the largest) is on the west, Lake Down on the east, and Lake Bessie on the southeast. By means of a system of canals, Butler, Down and six other lakes are connected to form what is known as the Butler Chain.
NeighborhoodScout has issued a special report identifying Florida's 10 best towns for families and children, and Windermere came out number 1. "We were looking for those very select communities that have both top-quality public schools and an exceptionally family-friendly environment, not towns that may excel at one or two criteria but are lacking in other ways." Dr Andew Schiller said who is the one that conducted the study.
Many families with children in the town signifies that other families have selected the town as a good place to raise their children, and helps to promote a family-friendly environment with good social networks for both children and their parents.
